Question
Calculate the rms speed of CO at 300 K.(Give the answer using 3 significant figures. Do not write your answer. R=8.314 kg m^2/s^2 molK Calculate the rms speed of CI^2 at 300 K.(Give the answer using 3 significant figures. Do not write the units. R=8.314 kg m^2/s^2 molK) Based upon your calculations of rms speed, which gas molecule is faster? What is the mole fraction of O_2 gas in a mixture of 5.08g O_2,7.17g of N_2 and 1.32g of H_2?(Write your answer to 3 significant figures. Do not write units.)Explanation / Answer
ANSWER
NOTE: Dear candidate you have asked four questions. As per guidelines one question would be answered one time. All the same here we answer first THREE questions. Please send the remaining separtely.
Q 1.
rms speed of CO = (3RT / M)1/2
R = gas constant = 8.314kg-m2 / s2 molK
T = Temperature = 300K
M = molar mass of CO = 28.01g = 0.02801kg
Since the value of gas constant is in units of kg-m2 / s2 molk therefore the molar mass of CO must be in killograms
rms speed = (3 X 8.314 X 300 / 0.02801)1/2 = 516
Q 2
rms speed of Cl2 = (3 X 8.314 X 300 / 0.0708)1/2 = 325
Q 3
CO2 is moing faster.
