Question
Consider the reaction: 2 A B+3 C What is the concentration of A that will remain after 3 minutes if a reaction is initiated with 1.50 M in A? Rate constant of the reaction is 0.0030 L.mol 's1? What is the half-life of the reaction? A solution prepared by dissolving 5.40 g enzyme in a 100 ml solution is found to Exhibit an osmotic pressure of 3.6 torr at 25 oC. Determine molar mass of the enzyme. For a liquid, a plot of In P vs 1/T gave a line with a slope of -2100 kelvin. What is The value of enthalpy of vaporization of the liquid?Explanation / Answer
Answer:
1) Given rate constant k=0.0030 L mol^-1 s-1.
From the unit of rate constant, we know that the reaction is second order.
Initial concentration [A]o=1.5 M and [A]=? at 3 min =180 s.
The second order rate law is
1/[A]=kt+1/[A]o
1/[A]=(0.0030 L mol^-1 s^-1 x 180 s)+(1/1.5 M)
=0.54 L mol^-1+0.666 L mol^-1=1.206 L mol^-1
[A]=1/1.206=0.829 M.
[A] at 3 min is 0.829 M.
Half life t1/2=1/k[A]o
t1/2=1/(0.0030 L mol^-1 s^-1)(1.5 mol L^-1)
t1/2=1/0.0045 s
t1/2=222.22 s.
