Identify the acid and its conjugate base and base and its conjugate acid:
Ca(OH)2 + 2HNO3 -------> Ca(NO3)2 + H2O
The base in the above reaction is Ca(OH)2. It is a base because, it has a hydroxide group in it.
So since its a base, the conjugate acid can be obtained by the following reaction:
Ca(OH)2 + H+ -------> Ca2+ + H2O
So Ca(OH)2 is the base and theconjugate acid is H2O
The acid in the above reaction is HNO3.And the reaction that involves this acid would be:
HNO3 -------> H+ +NO3-
Since HNO3 is the acid, the conjugate base would be NO3-and in the reaction it is in form of Ca(NO3)2
So HNO3 is the acid and theconjugate base is Ca(NO3)2
