Question

EXPERIMENT Post-Laboratory Questions 1. Can cakcium hydroxide solution be used to distinguish Co(NOz and FelNOJ, solutions using only the titration technique presented in this lab? Justify your answer with an explanation. 2. In Step 32 a student added 150 ml of water to the beaker containing 10 mL of unknown metal nitrate ill this experimental error significantly affect the solution instead of 100 mL of water as instructed? W volume of NaOH that must be added in the titration? Justify your answer with an explanation. 73

Explanation / Answer

Answer-1.....

First we identify the Ksp of each of these species

Co(OH)2 1.6×10–15

Fe(OH)2 8.0×10–16

Since Ksp values are very similar, their solubilities will be very close too, so the concentrations will be hard to be identified through titration of OH- with X+2 metal ion.

That means, if we precipitate material it could be either Iron or Cobalt hydroxide.
