Explanation / Answer

In the question , Osmolarity must be refferring to the molarity of total ions prsent in the solution that is van'thoff factor x molarity.

Q1)

a) 1.oM KNO3 solution

KNO3 ------> K+ + NO3- (2 ions )

Thus osmolarity is 2M

b) 1M K2SO4

K2SO4 --------> 2K+  + SO4-   (3 ions)

Thus osmolarity = 3M

c) solution containing 1M each of KNO3 and Na2SO4

Total they give 5 ions (2+3)

Thus osmolarity is 5M

d) solution containing 1M KNO3 and 1M glucose

glucose is non-electrolyte

Thus number of particles = 2+1 = 3

osmolarity = 3M
