Krakatoa is a volcanic island in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra, in Indonesia, which violently erupted in 1883 destroying most of the island and what was left was denuded of life. Mt. St. Helens, in the state of Washington, last erupted in 1980, clearing a significant area of life. Both have undergone plant succession. Select one of the following to answer: o Which had the faster succession rate and why? o How did organisms reach both areas in order for succession to occur, and was there a certain order that needed to be followed, or not? What were the limiting factors, if any, for each location regarding succession? oExplanation / Answer
Volcanic eruption is the process of getting out hot molten megma from the earth.Lava, rocks, dust, ash and gas compounds are some of these ejecta. Some eruptions are terrible explosions that throw out huge amounts of rock and ash and kill many people.
This megma contains most the materials and sources which helps in plant succesion. While volcanic erruption hot megma contains of most of organic material forms a layer of productive soil. Which helps plants to grow fast. Plant succession can easily occur on this type of soil. Though this erruption remove the surface of upper layer of the earth but is it also forms another productive layer on the same surface on which plant succesion occure.
Same is happened with the given volcanic eruption. Which was destroying most of the island but another Island was forming with the same volcanic eruption on which plant succession occured.
