Question

please add the A) B) C) D) so i can know each answer is related to which question thank you

Question:

You can answer this on the back as you’ll need room. We have more or less confidence in an idea based upon the amount of evidence for or against it. But it is also important to consider the quality of the evidence used. Review the four evidences of Galileo. All support the sun-centered system, and all oppose the earth-centered system. A) Pick the one which does the worst job (is the most incompetent in) opposing the earth-centered system, and explain why you think the evidence is so weak. B) Pick the one which does the worst job supporting the sun-centered system, and explain why you think the evidence is so weak. C) Pick the one which does the best job opposing the earth-centered system, and explain why you think the evidence is so strong. D) Pick the one which does the best job supporting the sun-centered system, and explain why you think the evidence is so strong. [Hint: This question is about your judgment about which evidences are more convincing than others. There are right answers, but I’m mostly going to be looking at the reasons you use to justify your decisions.]

Explanation / Answer

A. The observation that does the worst job of opposing the earth-centered system is the moons of Jupiter. Even though the moons of Jupiter show that there are objects that orbit not Earth, it stilldoesn’t mean that the Earth isn’t at the center. Because maybe the moons do orbit Jupiter, however Jupiter can still orbit the Earth, and the Earth can still sit motionless in the center of the universe.

B. The evidence of Galileo which does the worst job in supporting the sun-centered system is the Mountains and Craters of the Moon. The geographical features of the Moon show that part of the heavens is not made of fire and is actually moving around even though it is made from a solid substance. However, this can be easily disagreed with if you say that may be those are just some uneven spots in the fierysubstance, or maybe the telescope’s lens is flawed and darkened in some spots which make it seem as if there are geographical things on the Moon.

C. The observation of phases of venus does the best job opposing the earth-centered system. This is because the galileo observed that the venus was revolving around the sun and not the earth concluding that the earth was not the centerd.

D. The observation of phases of venus does the best job in supporting the sun-centered system. Venus has phases based on the planet’s position relative to us and the Sun. and there was no way for the Ptolemaic model (Earth centered solar system) to account for these phases. They can only occur as Galileo saw them if Venus is circling the Sun, not the Earth.
