Question

Promethei Terra Region, Mars (near eastern rim of Hellas Basin, at 38°S. 104 E) Please examine the 3d anaglyph of the site at Promethei Terra, located east of Hellas Basin in the southern highlands of Mars (original data acquired from orbit by the European Mars Express spacecraft). As with all such anaglyphs, ensure that the image is oriented properly when viewing. A finder figure of locales referenced in the questions is given below Are there any prominent landforms that dominate the landscape? 13. Where are the greatest elevations in the imaged region found? 12. What is the overall nature of the form of the imaged region in Promethei Terra? 14. The impact craters seen at the lunar site examined in Lab #2 were distinctly bowl-shaped with sharp, well-defined rims. How do the craters at the Promethei Terra site compare in this regard? 15. what are the morphological differences between landforms “M” and “L”? 16. What are the morphological differences between landforms "D" and "J? 17. a) C any other craters in the area filled by materials of similar characte raters "A" and "B" are partly filled with material. What are the basic morphological properties of the accumulated fill materials of these craters? b) Are risties and appearance? 18. a) What is the source of the fill materials of crater "A"? b) What is the source of the fill materials of crater "B"? Please explain your answers. 19. This site contains one of the better examples of glacier-like flow on Mars. a) glacier-like flow? b) What kinds of Martian materials might be expected to be What landforms at the site seem to be most consistent with materials demonstratin capable of flowing in this manner? Please explain your answers.

Explanation / Answer

Q12:-This region of promethei Tera is the mountain region and some volcanic activities are there also and the other land form is produced by the volcanic deposits .Here we can see landforms like mountains with sharp tops and craters developed due to high volcanic activity and small craters are also seen here.

Q 13:-As shown in the figure G,F,O are at the highest altitude at the mountain top so these are the highest elevated points.

Q 14:- As we know that the craters are of three types Circular ,bowl shaped and cone shaped .so we can categorize the crater by that .Rims formed due to volcanic deposits and in this case the volcanic activity is really high so formation of rim is natural.

Q 15:-M is a small depression and L is a small elevation .M is may be a small crater due to a volcanic activity .L is formed due to the deposition Of the volcanic products and due to some tectonic activity.
