Explanation / Answer

GERRYMANDERING is a 2010 American documentary film written and directed by JEFF REICHERT. The main intention of this film is to change the current tradition of gerrymandering.

Gerrymandering by definition means a form of redistricting in which electoral districts are manipulated for clear advantage for one particular political party. Texas's 2003 redistricting was literally an extreme case of partisan gerrymandering.

The director well presented about the urgent need to change politically motivated redistricting. According to him, Texas is well-known for its oddly drawn congressional district lines, a clear good indication of gerrymandering. In fact Texas has some of the most head-scratching congressional districts in the entire United States. Basically the political party in power in a state has dibs on drawing up congressional district lines. Because of gerrymandering issue, Republicans were awarded TWO extra seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Gerrymandering case battled out in the Supreme Court was especially important to TEXAS state. Interestingly gerrymandering is not unique to Texas, of course it has transformed several other states like Illinois, Pennsylvania, Florida and California. This particular film mostly focuses on the 2008 campaign in California, Because both Democrats and Republicans resort to gerrymandering, the film is NONPARTISAN.

The director Jeff Reichert done a great job by making his points in a way that is both informative as well as entertaining. This is a must see documentary which clearly escalates the system of electing representatives and this film also pinpoints the root of the growing partisan divide in America.
