Question 23
Dr. G loves strong rum and coke, the stronger the better. However, he can't tell small differences in the rum and coke strength. If Dr. G changes the amount of rum by more than half an ounce per glass then he can tell the difference. However, he cannot distinguish differences of less than half an ounce per glass. There are four glasses that were mixed differently. Glasses G, H, M and Q were brewed using 3, 2.6, 3.4 and 3.8 ounces per glass, respectively.
Determine the preferences for each of the following expressions using the notation in the class.... < > or ~
G H
M Q
H M
M G
Q G
H Q
Explanation / Answer
Comparison:
G ~ H (since there is only a difference of 0.4 ounces between the two)
M ~ Q (since there is only a difference of 0.4 ounces between the two)
H < M (since there is a big difference of 0.8 ounces between the two)
M ~ G (since there is only a difference of 0.4 ounces between the two)
Q > G (since there is a big difference of 0.8 ounces between the two)
H < Q (since there is a big difference of 1.2 ounces between the two)
(Difference of less than 0.5 ounces is not felt by the drinker, however any difference of more than that is felt)
