Changing patterns of fertility and immigration in US. This makes the United States on a short road to a population diversity never before experienced by any nation—In US, there is a population of all races and ethnicities are part of minority groups that make up a complex whole. At the same time, the United States faces an aging population

These demographic trends play out differently in different states and regions, with some areas seeing exploding student populations while others experience declining enrollments. The trends also differ for different population groups. Education levels are improving overall, but significant disparities exist by race and ethnic group

Public schools bear the major responsibilities to adress these disparities. Indeed changing demographics pose a number of challenges for schools most notably,

Major disparities among school age children and how those can be resolved,

Student Health

Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in the U.S., and the same poor eating habits that led to the obesity problem may also be contributing to lower student achievement. Obesity also increases a student’s risk for other conditions, like diabetes and high blood pressure, which could result in higher absenteeism and more academic issues.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture released new guidelines in 2012 to boost the nutritional quality of the meals students get at school. Encourage exercise programs in schools across the country to promote more physical activity among students of all ages. Parents and teachers both plays a crucial role in helping the children from this obesity. From the early age itself , they should be educated about the importance of fitness, balanced diet. This should be the part of the curriculum.

Student Attitudes and Behaviors

Many public school teachers are complaining about the student attitudes, such as apathy and disrespect for teachers, as a major problem facing schools today.

A poll from the National Center for Education Statistics cited that problems like apathy, tardiness, disrespect and absenteeism posed significant challenges for teachers. These issues were seen more frequently at the secondary school level, rather than the primary grades.

These problems can be handled by proper counselling to the students. And inculcate positive attitude into the children. Treat them at first so that that should not be complicated.

Bullying

Bullying is not a new problem, but it is one that has a profound impact on the learning aptitude of many students today. Technology has given bullies even more scope– through social networking, texting and other virtual interactions. Cyberbullying has become a major issue for schools, as evidenced by the number of suicides that can be directly traced to bullying events.
