Question

The connection between the overconsumption of saturated and trans fats and chronic disease ( obesity, diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease) underscores the importance of being alert to a client 's fat intake. What advice would you offer a client who reports the following: eating more than 12 ounces of meat each day , drinks whole milk and eats regular cheddar cheese each day, eats the following breads and cereals each day: a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast, a sandwich on white bread for lunch, and biscuits or cornbread with butter to accompany dinner. Eat less than the equivalent of a cup of fruit each day and eats vegetables only on occasion? Explanation / Answer

12 ounces meat will equal to almost 6 grams of saturated fat. Cheddar cheese has 21gm of saturated fat per 100gm of cheese and all other items he's having has high amount of saturated fats and also doesn't eat enough fruits and vegetables. This whole diet will surely lead to the obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. I would advise client to shift towards healthy food that contains more unsaturated fatty acids like canola oil, sunflower oil and sesame. He should shift to fish from the meat. Fish like tuna, hearing and salmon has high amount of nutrients. The client should add nuts like flaxseeds, sunflower seeds and walnuts. Avocado is also very good source. He should also add seasoning that will help to lose weight like cinnamon, pepper, mustard seeds and ginger.
