Kidney disease affects more than 20 million US adults and many are estimated to have CKD and are undiagnosed. There is some great work being done on on a national and international level by the Centers for Diease Control in regards to managing kidney disease. In recognition of the growing problem, the CDC has implemented the Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Initiative. Key strategies of this initiative seek to prevent and control risk factors for CKD, to raise awareness, to promote early diagnosis, and to improve outcomes and quality of life for those living with CKD. Current initiatives include: surveillance and epidemiology, state-based demonstration projects, health outcomes and economic studies in partnership with other government agencies, universities, national and international organizations.The CNL could partner with the CDC by way of their local community health departments, clinics, and hospitals to support the research efforts, be a change agent and raise local awarenes of all cultural educate the community, improve health literacy, and advocate through preventive efforts. Through advocacy and research the CNL could help improve outcomes and the health of this population.

Explanation / Answer

It is observed that Chronic Kidney Disease one of the major contributing factor for increased mortality and morbidity among US population. And the estimated population seems to be tip of the ice berg because of the number of cases which are undiagnosed and unreported. Many people lack knowledge about kidney diseases and it's preventive factors. With this context, Centres for Disease Control and Prevention started the initiative to bring in community awareness and understand the epidemiological factors, to determine early diagnosis and promote quality in life of people with CKD.

The current initiatives discussed are understanding epidemiology and undertaking surveillance around the regions of country, conducting projects with international and national organisations, local and government agencies and implement new interventions for quality life of people. It is believed that if there is a collaboration between CDC and CNL,this can help to make contributions through community health departments, clinics, hospitals by conducting research and bring in change. This change can enable public awareness and improve knowledge of public on healthy activities and prevent healthcare issues. This collaboration can lead to fruitful outcomes in terms of good health and prevention of illness.
