Question

A square coil of wire of side 2.40 cm is placed in a uniform magnetic field of magnitude 2.50 T directed into the page as in the figure shown below. The coil has 34.0 turns and a resistance of 0.780 ?. If the coil is rotated through an angle of 90.0

A square coil of wire of side 2.40 cm is placed in a uniform magnetic field of magnitude 2.50 T directed into the page as in the figure shown below. The coil has 34.0 turns and a resistance of 0.780 ?. If the coil is rotated through an angle of 90.0° about the horizontal axis shown in 0.335 s, find the following. (a) the magnitude of the average emf induced in the coil during this rotation __________mV (b) the average current induced in the coil during this rotation ___________mA

Explanation / Answer

The equation for the average induced emf in the square coil when rotates through an angle of 90 degrees is

e = ( N B A - 0 ) / t

N is the numer of turns, B is the nagnetic field, A is the area and t is time

e = (34)(2.5) (0.024)^2 / 0.335s

= 0.1461volts. or 145.1mV

b)

Average current

I = V/ R = 0.1461 /0.78

= 0.1874 A
