Question
What is the main distinction between a simple pendulum and a physical pendulum?
A The period of a simple pendulum does not depend on mass distribution within pendulum's shape but that of a physical pendulum does.
B The period of a physical pendulum does not depend on mass distribution within pendulum's shape but that of a simple pendulum does.
C The angular amplitude of a physical pendulum depends on length but that of a simple does not
D The angular amplitude of a simple pendulum depends on length but that of a physical pendulum does not
Explanation / Answer
For Simple Pendulum , T =2pi sqrt(L/g)
For Phyiscal Pendulum , T = 2pi sqrt(I / mg *L_cm )
From these two equations we can see that Time period of physical pendulum depends on its mass distribution, shape etc.
(Because of I ( moment of inertia of physical pendulum about its centre of mass )
But Time period of simple pendulum dosen't depend upon mass deitribution.
so ,
A The period of a simple pendulum does not depend on mass distribution within pendulum's shape but that of a physical pendulum does.
