Question

A battery with

and no internal resistance supplies current to the circuit shown in the figure below. When the double-throw switch S is open as shown in the figure, the current in the battery is 1.02 mA. When the switch is closed in position a, the current in the battery is 1.29 mA. When the switch is closed in position b, the current in the battery is 2.04 mA. Find the following resistances.

(a)    R1
k?

(b)    R2
k?

(c)    R3
k?

A battery with (a) R1 k? (b) R2 k? (c) R3 k? e m f = 4.00 V and no internal resistance supplies current to the circuit shown in the figure below. When the double-throw switch S is open as shown in the figure, the current in the battery is 1.02 mA. When the switch is closed in position a, the current in the battery is 1.29 mA. When the switch is closed in position b, the current in the battery is 2.04 mA. Find the following resistances.

Explanation / Answer

eqn 1

1.02 R1 + 1.02 R2 +1.02 R3 = 4                     [ R is in k ohm ]

eqn 2

1.29 R1 + 0.5*1.29 R2 + 1.29R3   = 4

eqn 3

2.04 R1 + 2.04 R2 = 4

solving eqn 1,2 ,3

R1 =         0.319 k ohm (ans)                 R2 =      1.6415 k ohm (ans)                     R3 =1.9608 k ohm (ans)
