Question

Hi there,

I'm struggling to understand this one, particularly part c. Thanks.

A cheetah can accelerate from rest to 25-0 m/s in 6.22 s. Assuming constant acceleration, (a) how tar has the cheetah run in this time? (b) After sprinting for just 3.11 s, is the cheetah's speed 12.5 m/s, more than 12.5 m/s, or less than 12.5 m/s? Explain. (c) What is the cheetah's average speed for the first 3.11 s of its sprint? For the second 3.11 s of its sprint? (d) Calculate the distance covered by the cheetah in the first 3.11 s and the second 3.11 s.

Explanation / Answer

c)
total distance covered by cheetah in 3.11 s

s=ut+.5at2

here a=25/6.22 m/s2

putting values we get

s=19.4375m

avg speed =displacement/time

v=6.25m/s
