Question

What is the time interval between two objects moving towards each other at relativistic speeds?

Both objects are in the same frame.

Its's a piece-wise question, and I'm stuck on the very last part, I've figured that I just need to figure out the velocity of the two objects moving towards each other at the same speed:

Two spaceships pass each other, each going 0.7c. Find the length of both ships in this frame. Find the time interval that it takes for the tails of each ship to line up with one another and compare to the time interval using the 1-D velocity transformation for ship B (nose to the left) relative to ship A.

Explanation / Answer

The speeds of eah are 0.7c in this frame of reference.

The lenghts can be found out by L(1-v2/c2)^0.5= 0.71L

Relative velocity= (u +w)/ (1+ uw/c2)

= 0.469c

Distance = contracted lengths of the two

If their lengths is the same,time taken= 1.42L/ 0.469c
