Question
Need help with the following, please...
1. (a) What is the minimum value of L for a subshell that has 11 electrons in it?
(b) if this subshell is in the n = 4 shell, what is the spectroscopic notation for this atom? _ _ _
2. Calculate the net energy required to transfer an electron from K to At.
3. The equilibrium separation of a mystery molecule is 0.362 nm. If its bonding is 61%, what is its dipole moment?
I know that (a) of #1 is 3. I don't know what part (b) is, or #2 or #3. If you can give a little explanation, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your help =)
Explanation / Answer
1.a) For a given l, there are 2l + 1 different values of m. For 2ach m there are two different values of ms.
So a subshell with quantum number l can hold 2(2l + 1) = 4l + 2 electrons.
To hold 11 electrons the minimum value for l is 3
