3) What kind of antigens(agglutinogens) would you find on the surface of the RBCs of a person with blood type A Negative?
Antigens present on the surface of RBCs. Person with blood type A Negative has A antigens and Rh- shows there are no Rh antigens.
RBCs have another antigen, called as the RhD antigen. If RhD is present, then blood group is RhD positive and if RhD is absent, then blood group is RhD negative.
Antibodies are present in the blood plasma. If there are A antigens and no B or Rh antigens, then antibodies present in blood plasma are: B and Rh antibodies.
4) What kind of antigens (agglutinogens) would you find on the surface of the RBCs of a person with blood type AB Positive? And what kind of antibodies would you find in the plasma of such person?
A person with blood type AB Positive means person has both A and B antigens. And person has RhD antigen also because blood group is RhD positive.
No antibodies are present in the blood plasma as all antigens are present i.e. A, B and Rh antigens, then there are no antibodies in the blood plasma.
5) What kind of antibodies (Agglutinins) would you find in the plasma of a person with blood type O negative? And what kind of antigens would you find on the surface of the RBCs of such person?
A person with blood type O negative has neither A nor B antigens and Rh- indicates there are no Rh antigens also.
As there are no antigens present on the surface of the red blood cells, then all antibodies are present in the blood plasma, which are A, B and Rh antibodies.
6) What is the significance of the Rh blood group for a pregnant woman? What is the name of the disease associated with this case?
If pregnant women is RhD negative and child inherited RhD positive blood from the father, then it are problems if left untreated.
Rhesus disease associated with this case. It occurs when the mother is RhD negative and the baby in her womb has RhD positive.
If a Rh- mother gets pregnant with an Rh +ve baby, then there is no problem in first pregnancy as she not have Rh D antibodies yet.
But if the woman gets pregnant a second time with another Rh+ baby then there can be complications as she developed the Anti Rh D during the birth of the first pregnancy.
