Question

hues. 3. Duckweed is a tiny floating aquatic plant that can reproduce so rapidly that it can completely cover the surface of small fish hatchery ponds. One proposal to limit the growth of this invasive plan is to use colored panels to shield the ponds, inhibit photosynthesis, and kill this pest. What color filters would you order for the panels in this project? What wavelengths of light will be absorbed by these filters? Do you think this proposal will be effective in killed the duckweed? 102 hu the German botanist Thomas Engelmann, he

Explanation / Answer

Duckweed has ability to multiply rapidly can infest pond or bay in just few days so it can be major nuisance for its ability to turn beautiful pond to mess.

Black or green colour panel can be use. Black panel would be most effective colour to halt and prevent photosynthesis because it blocks the all types of light from reaching chloroplast of plant cells. Thus no light absorbing pigments would be absorbing any light. Second best panel will be green because only caratenoids can absorb this wavelength frequency and caretenoids are less abundant in chloroplast as compare to chlorophyll so less light energy would transfer to reaction centres.

So yes by using this colour panels duckweed will not be able to do photosynthesis and thus there growth will be halt.
