Question
Two long parallel wires are 18 cm apart. What equal currents must be in the wires if the magnetic field halfway between them is to have a magnitude of 250 ?T in the positive y direction (up in the figure)?
Must the current be "parallel" or "antiparallel"?
antiparallel
Must the current on the left be "in" or "out" of the paper?
Must the current on the right be "in" or "out" of the paper?
You are correct.Your receipt no. is 153-369 Previous Tries Two long parallel wires are 18 cm apart. What is the magnitude of the current?
Explanation / Answer
To have a net field in the middle the currents must be ANTIPARALLEL
B = ?o*I/2?r
250x10-6 = 2*10-7*I/0.18
so I = 250x10-6*0.18/(2x10-7) = 225A
Left side B out of page; Hence current in counter clockwise
Right side B into the page; Hence current in clockwise
