Question

A charge of +1 mu C is sitting on a table. A little cube with a mass of 1 g and a charge of +1 mu C is located directly above it. Suppose the cube floats in mid-air. What is the distance between the charges? For this problem you need to include both electrical and gravitational forces. A capacitor has square plates of size 5 cm x 5 cm. separated by 1mm of empty space. A proton placed between the plates feels a force of 10^-15N to the right. What is the electric field between the plates? What is the voltage on the capacitor? What is the capacitance? How much energy is stored in the capacitor?

Explanation / Answer

Please post the questions seperately to get all the solutions , here i am writing the solution of the first one

For the cube to float in the air, the electrostatic force and the gravitational force must be balanced.

Hence

Mg = k Q1Q2/ r^2

r = sqrt (kQ1Q2/Mg)

r = 95 cm
