The force magnitudes are F1-4.72 N, F2 = 8.75 N, and F3 = 2.60 N, and the indicated angle is = 60°. (a) During the displacement, what is the net work done on the trunk by the three applied forces, the gravitational force, and the normal force? (b) Is there a net transfer of energy to or from the trunk? (c) Does the kinetic energy of the trunk increase or decrease? (a) Number Units the tolerance is +/-1 in the 3rd significant digit SHOW HINT 8:08 PM 2/24/2016

Explanation / Answer

we know work done = force * displacement in direction of force

Wnet =Fnet*d

so work done by perpendicular forces is zero because displacement is in horizontal direction towards left

Fnet = 4.72-8.75cos60 =0.345 N

so

Wnet = 0.345*2.76 =0.9522 J

part b

a work done on trunk =Wnet =0.9522 J

part c

kinetic energy of trunk increase because force is in the direction of displacement and we can say that in the direction of motion.
