Question
I need help answering all parts (a-d). Thanks
Two capacitors are in a circuit, connected in parallel as shown in the figure. The capacitances are C_1 = 5.2 mu F and C_2 = 11 mu F. The battery carries a voltage of Delta V = 10.4 V. Express the total capacitance C in terms of the two capacitances C_1 and C_2. Calculate the numerical value of the total capacitance C in mu F. Express the total charge on both of the capacitors Q in terms of capacitance C and the potential difference Delta V. Calculate the numerical value of Q in mu C.Explanation / Answer
a). C = C1 + C2
b). C = 5.2+11 = 16.2 microF
c). Now, Q =Q1+Q2
Q = C1V+ C2V = CV
d). Q = 16.2*10.4 = 168.48 microC.
