Question
We have a large region of space that has a uniform electric field in the +x direction. At the point (0,0)m, the electric field is 30 N/C and the electric potential is 100 volts. Rank the points specified below on the basis of the change in the electric potential energy of a single negative charge of -5 C that is moved from the origin (0,0) to these particular points. That is, put first t point that will involve the largest change in electric potential energy as the charge is moved from (0,0) to that point, and put last the point that will involve the smallest change in electric potential energy as t e charge is moved from (0,0) to that point. Note that the some of these changes may be negative and that - 5Explanation / Answer
F > D = E > A = B > C
change potentail energy, delta_U = q*(V2 - V1)
= -5*10^-6*(V2 - V1)
if we move towards +x axis the value of (V2 - V1) is negative.
so, delta_U positive.
if we move towards -x axis the value of (V2 - V1) is positive.
so, delta_U negative.
at points D and E potentail is same
at points A and B potentail is same
clearly, as we move towards +x direction potentail decreases.
so, if electron is left freely it is accelerated towards -x axis, so, at moves towards -x axis its
kinetic energy increasea and potentail energy decreases.
