3. (10 points) As you can see in the photo below, the antenne of barying betles haveces. To tips, a trait that presumably helps them to better detect to odors from decaying carcasses. explore this idea in more detail, design an experimental study to determine if the presence ol fringe on the antennae improves the ability of beetles to detect carcasses. Specifically, outine following aspects of your proposed experiment Hypothesis to be tested: Hypothess The nnged tps of on arteana helps buryion beettes ind carasses easily, Fringed ends of antennae does not hlp uoth fudng casses ng Cascasses Proposed experiment: Controls to be used:Explanation / Answer
Proposed experiment : take a group of beetles and divided them into 2 groups - one control (un altered) , the other whose fringed tips are cut. Set them loose on a look out for a carcass odorant article.
Another confirmatory experiment can be done by using normal beetles as controls while test beetles being one who have mutation resulting in absence of fringed ends or druging them so that the fringed ends become insensitive.
Primary variables to be measured are the number of beetles in sach group that get attracted to the carcass odor.
Expected outcome = mahiti tu of the beetles belonging to the test group shall fail to move towards or in the direction of the carcass odor.
