Question
A horizontal pipe carries a smoothly flowing liquid with density 1.13 × 103 kg/m3. At locations 1 and 2 along the pipe the diameters are 5.05 cm and 2.09 cm, respectively. Is the flow speed at location 2 higher or lower than at location 1?
The flow speed at location 1 is 1.63 m/s. What is the pressure difference between location 2 and location 1 (including its sign)? Ignore viscosity
Is the pressure at location 2 higher or lower than at location 1?
Explanation / Answer
volume flow remain constant throughout the pipe.
flow speed = Av
A = corss sectional area , v = flow speed
so if cross section area is larger then lower the speed.
cross sectional area is smaller at 2.
si flow speed will be higher.
Ans (higher)
............................................
using Av = constant
(pi x (5.05/2)^2) x 1.63 = ( pi x (2.09 / 2)^2) x v2
v2 = 9.52 m/s
using bernoulli's equation,
P + row*gh + row*v^2 /2 = constant
P1 + 0 + (1.13 x 10^3 x 1.63^2 / 2) = P2 + 0 + (1.13 x 10^3 x 9.52^2 / 2)
P1 - P2 = 49667.51 Pa ...........Ans
-------------------------------
pressure at 2 is lower.
