Answer 1:Regarding question 1, I would not be able to make markings on a world map since downloading the map from online sources could mean a copyright infringement.
Answer 2:
Unlike the modern developed settlements of cities and metros where water can be carried from the sources to cover long distances before reaching our homes, the early settlements needed to have easy access to water.
With the growing realization that food and water were crucial to our existence and survival, the settlements looked to river for a number of things- fishes (for hunting), water for drinking and washing and the sheer fact that these water bodies support vegetation and thus its own bio-diversity that man was dependent upon.
With the developed idea of cultivating selected plants as food source, being in close proximity to rivers made sense since irrigation was not yet an idea. With the developing ideas that would have included the study of soil and its importance to keep the crop healthy, river-side settlements by far became one of the most critical footholds in our development as a community that could support the sustenance and evolution of our species.
