Question
A robot is moving along a straight track. the graph below shows the velocity of the robot as a function of time. The graph indicates points A, B, D, E, and G. for each case listed below, determine the labeled points at which the motion is as described. A given case might hold for one of the labeled points, or for several points, or for none of the points. Justify your choice with a few worlds and/or an appropriate equation. (i) The speed is increasing. (ii) The robot is moving in the positive x direction. (iii) The robot is reversing direction.Explanation / Answer
(i) A and E , speed is just the magnitude of velocity, at point A speed is increasing in negetive direction and at E speed is incresing in positive direction.
(ii) E and G, velocity is positive in these both case.
(iii) D , here velocity is momentarily zero means its reversing direction.
(iv) A D E G , acceleration is slope of velocity-time curve and at all these point slope is non-zero.
(v) B , slope of (velocity-time) curve is zero at this point.
(vi) D and E , at both these points slope is positive.
