Question
An airplane flies eastward and accelerates uniformly . At one position along its path it has a velocity of 31.7m/s. It then flies a further distance of 46.5km and it's velocity is 45.1 m/s. Find the airplane's accerlation and calculate how much time elapses while the airplane covers those 46.5km. An airplane flies eastward and accelerates uniformly . Find the airplane's accerlation and calculate how much time elapses while the airplane covers those 46.5km.Explanation / Answer
According to the given problem,
a) Using kinamatics,
v2 - u2 = 2aS
where v = final velocity = 45.1 m/s, u = initial velocity = 31.7 m/s. S = distace = 46.5m and a = accelration
a = 45.12 - 31.72/[2*46.5*103]
a = 0.011 m/s
b) Similary using kinamatic equation,
v = u + at
t = v - u/a
t = 45.1 - 31.7/0.011
t = 1210.9375 s
t = 20.2 min.
