Chapter 22, Problem 022 Density, density, density. (a) A charge -313e is uniformly distributed along a circular arc of radius 5.40 cm, which subtends an angle of 46° What is the linear charge density along the arc? (b) A charge -313e is uniformly distributed over one face of a circular disk of radius 3.70 cm. What is the surface charge density over that face? (c) A charge -313e is uniformly distributed over the surface of a sphere of radius 3.70 cm. What is the surface charge density over that surface? (d) A charge -313e is uniformly spread through the volume of a sphere of radius 5.20 cm. What is the volume charge density in that sphere? Explanation / Answer

the ration of angle to 360=46/360

Thus lenth of arc will be 46/360 odf the the circumference=(46/360)*2*pi*5.40=4.33 cm

linear charge density=charge per unit length=-313e/4.33 cm= - 7.286e /cm

b)area of one face of a disk=3.14*(3.70^2)=42.987 cm^2

surface charge density over that surface=-313e/42.987 =-7.28e /cm^2

c)surface area of sphere =4*3.14*(3.70^2)=172.03 cm^2

surface charge density over that surface=-313e/172.03 =-1.82e /cm^2

d)volume of sphere=(4/3)*3.14*r^3=(4/3)*3.14*(5.2)^3=588.98 cm^3

volume charge density=-313e/588.98= - 0.53 e /cm^3
