Question
Could someone please help me with this?
Suppose the series resistors in the example are now 4.00 n and 2.00 n while the parallel resistors are 4.00 n (top) and 2.00 n (bottom and the battery provides an emf of 56.0 V (a) Find the equivalent resistance. Reg 6.67 How do resistors work together in series? How do they work together in parallel? n (b) Find the currents I, I and I 8.2963 I You used Ohm's law appropriately, but your value for the equivalent resistance was incorrect, making this answer wrong too. A 1.5555 What factors affect the current in a circuit? A What factors affect the current in a circuit? AExplanation / Answer
a)
The equivalent of the parallel combination will be 4*2/(4+2) = 4/3 ohms
The equivalent of series combination will be
4+2 = 6 ohms.
So the equivalent resistance of the circuit will be
6+4/3 = 22/3 = 7.33 Ohms.
b)
The current I will be = voltage applied/ equivalent resistance = 56/7.33 = 7.636 A.
The ratio of currents I1 and I2 will be reverse of the ratio of resistances and I1+I2 = I = 7.636 A
So I1 = 7.636*2/(4+2) = 2.545 A
I2 = 5.09 A
