Question
The resistors 3 omega and 6 omega are connected in parallel and this combination is connected in series with a 7-omega resistor. The resulting combination is connected across a battery. If the current through the 6- omega resistor is 1 A. determine [2 points each] the potential difference across the parallel combination Answer __ the potential difference across the 7-omega resistor. Answer __ the emf of the battery. Answer __ the current drawn from the battery. Answer __ the power supplied by the battery. Answer __ (f) the current through the 3-omega resistor. Answer __ the resistance of the whole circuit. Answer __Explanation / Answer
total resiatance of the circuit = 3 II6 + 7 = 2+7 =9 ohm
current throughr 6 ohm is 1 amp so, current through 3 ohm is 2 amps.
so total current in the circuit is 1+2 = 3 amps
so, the emf of the battery = V = IR = 3x9 = 27 volts..............................................ans c)
the potential across the parallel combination = 2x3 = 6 volts...................................ans a)
the potential across 7 ohm resistance = 3x7 = 21 volts ............................................ans b)
d) the current down from the battery is 3 Amps
e) the power supplied by the battery P =VI = 27x3 = 81 watt
f) the current through 3 ohm resistance = 2 Amps
g) the resistance of the whole circuit = 7 ohms
