Three boxes with masses M, 2M, and 3M are sitting in a row on a frictionless surface. Force F is applied from the left of the box with mass M. (A) What is the acceleration of the system of boxes? Provide detailed explanation. (B) What is the net force exerted on the left box with mass M? Provide detailed explanation.

Explanation / Answer

Answer:-

Part-a) What is the accelration of the system of the boxes.

Let consider the given system of mass which is attached to each other.

three boxes of mass M,2M,3M. A force is applied to the system of mass.

We know a newton's law for force.

F =mT*a

where mT - is the total mass of the given system of boxes.

a- is the acceleration.

now calculate the total mass

mT = M+2M+3M

mT = 6M

F= mT*a

so a = F/mT

so Acceleration of system a = F/(M+2M+3M)

a =F/6M

Hence the aaceleration of the system a = F/6M.

Part-b ) What is the net force exerted on the left box with mass M

we have consider the equation for F=m*a

so for the given system F= mT*a

now put the total mass mT = M+2M+3M =6M

So F = 6M*a

Hence the net force exerted on the left box is Fnet = 6M*a
