Question

A 3.0 cm -tall object is 55 cm in front of a convex mirror that has a -30 cm focal length.

Part A: Calculate the image position. Input positive value if the image is on the same side from the mirror as an object and negative if the image is on the other side.

Part B: Calculate the image height. Input positive value if the image is upright and a negative value if it is inverted

Explanation / Answer

(A)

here by using the mirror formula

1 / f = 1 / v + 1 / u

1 / v = 1 / f - 1 / u

1 /v = 1 / -30 - 1 / 55

v = - 19.41 cm

the image is on the other side of the object - 19.41 cm

(B)

by using the formula of magnification

m = - v / u = himage / hobject

hi / 3 = - ( -19.41 ) /55

hi = 1.05 cm

the heigth of the image is 1.05 cm

and it is +ve so the image is upright
