The glaciers are melting, yet New England just broke its most recent snowfall record of 107.6 inches in 95-96 with a total of 108.6 on March 15, 2015. Is this normal, that is, driven by cycles which have existed for millions of years, or is it due to mankind's burning of fossil fuels which are tipping the scales? What does the data tell you? Compute a comparison of the annual burning of coal, the annual burning of fuel oil, and the annual burning of gasoline, to the energy emitted by the explosion of the enormous volcano Krakatoa in Indonesia. Add in a comparison to the energy by the Hiroshima bomb.

Explanation / Answer

It is partly natural but also due to the burning of fossil fuels by mankind. See, burning of fossil fuels increases the level of green house gases in the atmosphere which leads to more and more global warming. This results in the melting of glacier which in turn means more water level.

More water level means that the evaporation is more and hence more precipitation.
