a 4.27kg object is thrown vertically upward from the surface Grade 9/12/2017 11:55 PM 31.1/100 Question 8 of 19 Map oos Sapling Learning A 4.27-kg object is thrown vertically upward from the surface of Mercury, where the acceleration due to gravity is g.-370ml? The initial velocity is n and the object reaches a maximum height on what is the maximum height, y2, it the object is thrown with a speed of v2 1.39v from the surface of Jupiter's moon Ganymede? The acceleration due to gravity on Ganymede is g2 1.43 m/s2 Give your answer as a multiple of y ys : FI DOO FA FSExplanation / Answer
object reaches the maximum height when its vertical velocity is zero.
hence final vertical velocity. vf = 0 ( for maximum height)
applying,
vf^2 - vi^2 = 2 (-a) (y)
y = vi^2 / 2 a
so y1 = v1^2 / (2 x 3.70) = v1^2 / 7.40 ..... (i)
y2 = v2^2 / (2 x 1.43) = 1.39^2 v1^2 / 2.86
y2 = v1^2 / 1.48 ..... (ii)
(ii) /(i) => y2 / y1 = 7.40 / 1.48
y2 = 5 y1
