Question

Two capacitors, C1=5microfarons & C2=12microfarons are connected in parallel and connected to a 9v battery.
A) Find the equivalent capacitance of the combination B) Find the potential difference across each capacitor C) Find the charge stored on each capacitor Two capacitors, C1=5microfarons & C2=12microfarons are connected in parallel and connected to a 9v battery.

A) Find the equivalent capacitance of the combination B) Find the potential difference across each capacitor C) Find the charge stored on each capacitor

Explanation / Answer

here,

C1 = 5 uF

C2 = 12 uF

a)

as they are in parallel

the equivalent capacitance , C = C1 + C2

C = 17 uF

b)

the potential difference across each capacitor is same i.e V = 9 V

c)

the charge stored in 1 , Q1 = C1 * V = 45 uC

the charge stored in 2 , Q2 = C2 * V

Q = 108 uC
