Question

Read the following case study from the perspective of a dietitian. In point form, write five statements that you would discuss with Curtis, with the goal of improving his health. For each point, add a sentence that gives him information about metabolism that he should be aware of and the reasons why he should consider changing his diet and lifestyle.

Curtis is a 50-year-old male. His job is sedentary and he participates in no regular physical activity. He quit smoking when he was 40, after having had a near-fatal heart attack. His mother and father both suffered heart attacks in their fifties and his grandmother (on his mother’s side) had two strokes. He drinks energy drinks in the morning with bacon and eggs, and has two hamburgers and a plate of fries for lunch every day. He always has a serving of meat and salad for dinner, and a bag of potato chips and a diet soft drink for a snack in the evening.

Explanation / Answer

1. In the morning, when you wake up, before you eat, go for a walk , swim, something for around 3-10 minutes. It will help get your metabolism started and work better through out the day.

2. I would suggest to eat something like oatmeal in the morning, or simple toast with eggs and HAM. Bacon is high in fat and calories. And always get fruit.

3. Change up your lunch. Make a sandwich. or cut down on the fries too. Make a salad. Switch it up, and make it healthy, but give yourself a day where you can get bad foods, or make it one meal a day with bad foods to start.

4. At Dinner make sure that the vegetables is a big serving , but also the meat is good, and you should put garlic with it, very healthy for you.

5. Try and get active a little, go for a walk 3 times a week for 30 minutes, or go to the gym 2 times a week, at work try walking around more. Swimming is my favorite exercise and its a full body workout. Also tae-bo is a lot of fun, and hard work.
