Question
The refractive index of a transparent material can bedetermined by measuring the critical angle when the solid is inair. If c= 40.3° what is the index ofrefraction of the material?Tries 0/10 A light ray strikes this material (from air) at anangle of 32.4° with respect to the normal of the surface.Calculate the angle of the reflected ray (in degrees).
Tries 0/10 Calculate the angle of the refracted ray (indegrees).
Tries 0/10 Assume now that the light ray exits the material. Itstrikes the material-air boundary at an angle of 32.4° withrespect to the normal. What is the angle of the refractedray?
Tries 0/10 Tries 0/10
Explanation / Answer
Angle of reflection is always the same as angle of incidencewhich is 32.4 also.
Angle of refraction is easy it is simply n1sin1 =n2sin2 you are solving for 2 so take the sininverse of n1sin1/n2 which you got above to solvefor 2.
Now for the 4th question just take the material to be n1 and32.4 to be your 1 and you know the n for air is just oneso solve for 2 just like in the step above.
