Question

The radon concentration values for a zip-code area at four different houses are as follows: S. No Radon concentration (C) (pCi/l) 6.3 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.4 2.1 09 Considering two age groups namely infants and adults, the coefficients of risk are given by: Risk associated with Infants -(15'Cavg/15) (uHarm/Unit) Risk associated with Adults (15*Cavg/70) (uHarm/Unit) where, Cavg Mean of radon concentration values in an area For the above zip-code area, the risk is mostly associated with Infants Adults Both Infants and Adults None

Explanation / Answer

Answer:- Infants

Solution:-

For low risk range = 4 pCi/l to 10 pCi/l

Cavg = (6.3 + 5.4 + 2.1 + 0.9)/4 = 3.675 pCi/l

For risk associated with infants = 15*Cavg /15

= 15* 3.675/15

= 3.675 pCi/l

For risk associated with adults = 15*Cavg/70

= 15*3.675/70

= 0.7864 pCi/l

From above two results we can see that only value of risk associated with infants are near to low risk condition.

So only infants will be effected.
