Question
Calculate the average energy E(bar) per mode of oscillationfor (a) a long wavelength lambda = 10 hc/kT (b) a short wavelength lambda = .1 hc/kT and compare your results with the classical prediction kT (seeequation 3-9). (The classical value comes from the equipartitiontheorem discussed in Chapter 8) (a) a long wavelength lambda = 10 hc/kT (b) a short wavelength lambda = .1 hc/kT and compare your results with the classical prediction kT (seeequation 3-9). I'm not getting the correct answer by either of the methodssuggested. I thought the way to solve this was Eavg = 10 (0.582), but this is not right. Any points in the right direction?
