Question

What ishis speed at the instant his feet touch the ground?
Treatinghim as a particle, what is the magnitude of his acceleration as heslows down if the acceleration is constant?
I have noidea how to even approach this problem. Please help me, explainme. A 76.7 kg man steps off aplatform 3.05 m above the ground. He keeps his legs straightas he falls, but at the moment his feet touch the ground his kneesbegin to bend, and, treated as a particle, he moves anadditional 0.640 m before coming to rest. What ishis speed at the instant his feet touch the ground? Treatinghim as a particle, what is the magnitude of his acceleration as heslows down if the acceleration is constant? I have noidea how to even approach this problem. Please help me, explainme.

Explanation / Answer

(a)          Velocity(v) = 2g h    = 2*9.8 * 3.05 m                                              = 7.73 m/s (b)      Additional distance traveledbefore coming to rest 0.640 m            Acceleration as he slows down is :                                  a   = v2 / 2 y                                       =   ( 7.73)2 / (2 * 0.640 m )                                       = 46.68   m /s2 Hope this helps u!
