Question
Question B2 a. What are the differences between speed and velocity? 2 marks) b. A plane is travelling from Gatwick to Cancun, the flight takes 10 hours 35 minutes to travel the 4946 miles. Assuming a constant speed i. What's the velocity of the airplane in km/h and m/s? (2 marks) When landing, the plane took 15 minutes to reduce its speed from a velocity of 525km/h to 200km/h. Assuming constant deceleration, determine the value of the deceleration in m/s2 il. (3 marks) ili. How far did the plane travel while decelerating? (2 marks) C. A skydiver jumps off out of a plane flying at an altitude of 10,000 feet. Assuming the plane is travelling at a speed of 90km/h horizontally and ignoring air friction, determine: i. The time it will take the sky diver to reach a terminal velocity of 250km/h. (7 marks) i. The time it will take the skydiver to reach the floor assuming it will never surpass the terminal velocity (from i) and that when it is flying 4 km above the ground, the parachute will open. The open parachute will eliminate the horizontal component of the velocity and it will reduce the diver's vertical velocity to 6m/s until reaching the floor. Give the answer in minutes and seconds. (9 marks) (Total marks for QB2- 25 marks)Explanation / Answer
a)velocity is vector quantity and speed is scaler quantity.i.e to define velocity magnitude as well as direction is required.and for speed magnitude is enough.
speed related to distance and velocity is related to displacement.i.e if a body travel start from initial posion and travel 10 m in 5 secdond but diffrence betwwen its final and initial position is 5m then 10m is distance and 5m is displacement.velocity is 1 m/s and speed is 2m/s.
