Question

Item 3 Part A A rectangular loop with dimensions 4.20 cm by 9.50 cm carries current I. The current in the loop produces a magnetic field at the center of the loop that has magnitude 3.30x10-5 T and direction away from you as you view the plane of the loo What is the magnitude of the current in the loop? Express your answer with the appropriate units Submit swers Give Up Incorrect, Iry Again, 3 attempts remaining Part B What is the direction of the current in the loop? clockwise counterclockwise Submit My Answers Give Up Correct

Explanation / Answer

A) The required equation here is derived from calculus using the Biot-Savart Law and iirc the equation for the current will be

I = B*pi*L*W / (2uo*sqrt(L^2+W^2))

where, L=0.095m

W=0.042m

uo=4pi*10^-7

So, I = 3.3*10^-5*0.095*0.042 / (8*10^-7*sqrt(0.095^2 + 0.042^2))
( cancels!)

I = 1.58 A

(If that's not right, maybe the "2" in my original equation should have been in the numerator, which would make the answer 4 times greater???)
