Question
Item 9 Part A A 1.0-cm-tall object is 8.0 cm in front of a diverging lens that has a -10 cm focal length. Use ray tracing to ind the position and height of the image. To do this accurately, use a ruler or paper with a grid. Determine the image distance and image height by making measurements on your diagram. What is the image distance? Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units. 4.44 Submit My Answers Give Up Incorrect; Try Again; 4 attempts remaining Part B What is the image height? Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units h, 0.56 cm Submit My Answers Give Up Correct ContinueExplanation / Answer
1/f = 1/s + 1/s'
where s is the object distance and s' is the image distance
therefore 1/s' = 1/f - 1/s = 1/(-10) - 1/8 = -0.225
so s' = -1/0.225 = -4.44 cm
SO the image is 4.44 cm in front of the lens
and the height y' = m*y where m = -s'/s
so y = 1*4.44/8 = 0.55 cm
