(a) equation will be F=k(x2-x1) and F= mg

so mg=kx

k=mg/x = 1.7*9.81/(0.16-0.09) = 238.242 N.m

(b) now the mass is 3 kg

x=mg/k= 3*9.81/238.242= 0.1235 m = 12.35 cm
