Question

I found the following description on the CDC website about the new Ebola Viral Diseases Vaccine that is in trial: “The vaccine being used in STRIVE is rVSV-ZEBOV, or Vesicular Stomatitis Virus Zaire ebolavirus vaccine. To make this vaccine, the vesicular stomatitis virus is weakened by removing one of its genes. That gene is replaced with a single Ebola virus gene.” The vesicular stomatitis virus infects insects, cattle, horses, and pigs. This virus can lead to flu like symptoms in humans

• Please describe what type of vaccine this is, whether this would illicit a natural or an artificial and a passive or an active immune response, and how likely the individual receiving this vaccine is to develop Ebola symptoms. Please justify your answers.

Explanation / Answer

It will illicit artificial response by the body. The response will be an active response because first of all when the body will detect the foreign the particle like this administered vaccine the body itself will produce the Antibodies against and specific to this and also resulting in forming tha memory B-cells..!! As the Antibodies are produced by the own self hence active immunity and as it is allowed to create hence artificial methods.

As the Ebola gene is being inserted in the genetically modified gene it can express and produce a particular protein which will be released in the body. These protein will be administered by the Antibodies which will produce a hypersensitivity reaction. Moreover these proteins can also escape from the Antibodies and cab cause certain symptoms specified to Ebola virus which can be checked for..!!
