Question
The charge per unit length on a long, straight filament is-94.2 C/m. (a) Find the electric field 10.0 cm from the filament, where distances are measured perpendicular to the length of the filament. (Take radially inward toward the filament as the positive direction.) (b) Find the electric field 35.5 cm from the filament, where distances are measured perpendicular to the length of the filament. MN/C (c) Find the electric field 110 cm from the filament, where distances are measured perpendicular to the length of the filament. MN/C Need Help? n i LetenmExplanation / Answer
Here linear charge density = -94.2 x 10-6 C/m
We know , for a linear charge wire , Electric field at a distance of R m, E = -/2R directed inwards
a ) Putting the values ,
E =94.2*10-6 / (2**8.85*10-12*0.10) = 16.95 MN/C
b)Again Putting R = 0.355
E =4.774 MN/C
c) Similarly , putting R = 1.1 m
E = 1.5408 MN/C
